AB 5 and LGBTQ+ Training
As of July 1, 2025, a new training requirement is in effect for teachers and other certificated staff serving grades 7–12. Assembly Bill 5 (The Safe and Supportive Schools Act) amends Education Code Section 218, which now requires a minimum of one hour of annual LGBTQ+ cultural competency training over the next five years. To meet this mandate, the California Department of Education (CDE) launched a free online training program. To learn more about this training, visit PRISM’s Blog
