PRISM's Excess WC COVID-19 Claims
At the March 4, 2022 PRISM Board of Directors meeting, the Board took several actions with respect to the ongoing COVID-19 claim. One of the decisions that was made by the Board was to cut off the COVID-19 loss as of June 30, 2022. This means that for each occurrence of a COVID-19 loss that occurs on/after July 1, 2022, each new COVID-19 loss is a claim that is subject to the “per employee” wording that began with the 2020/21 Memorandum of Coverage (“MOC”).  Accordingly, starting immediately, EWC members no longer need to make first reports to PRISM on each and every new COVID-19 loss to PRISM. Instead, members only need to make a first report regarding a new COVID-19 loss as follows:
  • Loss prior to July 1, 2022: All COVID-19 claims
  • Loss on/after July 1, 2022: Only claims that meet one of the PRISM reporting requirements
    • i.e. total incurred on the claim is 50% or more of the SIR, or one of the individual claim reporting requirements
For PWC and EWC members that joined the Program on/after July 1, 2020, the above does not change the way you have been reporting claims as each of your COVID losses were already separate occurrences that are to be reported on an individual claim basis if the claim meets one of the PRISM reporting criteria. Please feel free to contact the following individuals if you have any questions: Mike Pott, PRISM Chief Legal Counsel; Jen Hamelin, PRISM Director of Workers’ Compensation Claims; Karin Wedworth, PRISM Manager of Workers’ Compensation Claims.
