PRISM Risk Control Training: Computer Workstation Ergonomic Evaluator - Part 2

In order to be able to take exam and receive a Completion Certificate, participants must attend both days.

Purpose of the course:  

To train qualified competent computer workstation ergonomic evaluators who can prevent workers’ compensation losses caused by musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).

Course description:

The course consists of:  

  • Two Zoom guided discussions; 2 hours each  
  • End-of-course exam

Who should attend?

Students who want to become VDT Ergonomic Evaluators. Students must be highly motivated, disciplined, and determined. The class work is difficult, requiring before-class study, homework, and exam preparation. It is critical that students who register intend to complete both training sessions and take the exam, as the class is limited to 10 students.

Pre-Course Requirement:

Students download the “Easy Ergonomics for Desktop Computer Users book from the reference link below. Students must be familiar with the content prior to coming to class.

Training and examination:

  • Students conduct 14 practice computer workstation ergonomic evaluations (from photos) in class. Students take turns in class identifying workstation hazards and making recommendations on how to correct the hazards.
  • The academic instruction focuses on computer workstation task analysis, handiness, Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs); proper chair, keyboard, and monitor adjustment; laptop ergonomic devices, document holders, and more.
  • For the final exam students must identify the workstation ergonomic hazards from 5 photographs and describe in essay format the corrective actions required to eliminate the hazards. Students will have 2 hours to complete the exam and it must be proctored by a supervisor.
  • Students who pass the exam with a score of 80% or higher receive a certificate of completion.
