2025 Telehealth Law: New Developments - Premiers On-Demand September 5, 2025 - No Registration Needed
Overview
Presented by: Linda Garrett, Esq., Garrett Law LLC
This training will provide an overview of telehealth laws and definitions, plus a review of:
- State laws clarifying the use of telehealth during the involuntary mental health hold process, and as a means of providing supervision for those needing supervised hours for licensure with the Board of Behavioral Sciences;
- New state laws allowing for the limited practice of healthcare by providers who are not licensed in California if certain criteria are met;
- The new Final Rule requirements (effective 12/31/25) that will allow telehealth prescribing of buprenorphine for opioid use disorder for up to six months without a prior in-person visit;
- The imminent sunsetting of broad telehealth flexibilities and waivers that have been in place since March 2020 (responding to the COVID public health emergency) and the return to Medicare's permanent telehealth statute and its more restrictive reimbursement rules that could significantly curtail utilization; and,
- The new risks to California providers who cross state lines via telehealth platforms to treat patients located in states with more restrictive laws.
