About CSAC Excess Insurance Authority

The EIA is a joint powers authority of California public entities, which was established in 1979 to provide insurance and risk management services to California’s counties. Since then, our membership has expanded beyond the counties to include numerous other public agencies such as cities, schools, joint powers authorities, fire districts, etc. 

The EIA operates various risk-sharing pools, which provide insurance and risk management services to its members for lines of business including workers’ compensation, general liability, property, medical malpractice, and employee benefits. 

About the Position

The Loss Prevention Specialist will, under the direction of the Loss Prevention Manager, act as a resource to the member entities of the CSAC Excess Insurance Authority for loss prevention services.

Duties include:

  • Perform analysis of losses to identify opportunities for action.
  • Audit clients’ loss prevention programs as required.
  • Evaluate loss information for trends and prepare analytical reports.
  • Attend and support Board, Executive Committee, and Safety Committee meetings.
  • Research and compile reports relevant to risk management concerns.
  • Upon request, develop and present workshops, training, seminars, etc.
  • Perform other tasks upon request.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have an Associate’s Degree in a directly related field or equivalent, and three years increasingly responsible work in directly related field.  An equivalent combination of education and experience may be sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job, including but not limited to those listed below:

  • Knowledge and experience in the principles and methods of loss prevention, safety, risk management, and public administration
  • Experience in local and California environmental, health and safety regulatory compliance
  • Knowledge and experience of the principles and techniques of employee training
  • Analyzing, developing, and implementing policies/procedures
  • Problem identification, solution recommendation and implementation
  • High intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and good public relations with other employees, agencies, members and the public
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Ability to travel up to 25-30% of the time with some overnight travel

Physical Requirements

Physical requirements of this position typically include:  reaching, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, repetitive motions, occasionally lifting, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move.  Some travel may be required.

Licensing Requirements

A valid California Driver’s license is required.  Proof of auto insurance with no exclusion for business use is required.

Salary and Benefits

The hiring salary range is $4,612 – $5,534 per month.  A generous benefit package is provided including Public Employees Retirement System (PERS); a Section 125 Cafeteria Plan with a generous allowance from which coverage may be provided for the employee and their dependents for health, dental and vision insurances; long-term disability and short-term disability insurance; life insurance; optional deferred compensation program; and sick and vacation leaves.  As a PERS participant, EIA employees are exempt from paying Social Security except for the Medicare portion of the cost.
