The County of Yuba is currently recruiting for the position of Employment Training Specialist I/II in the Employment Services Division of the Health and Human Services Department. Under general supervision, the incumbent provides complex employment and training assignments requiring a high level of professional skill and knowledge in employment services and career development; conducts training workshops, advanced employment assessment and job development; and other duties as assigned. This is a stand-alone classification in the employment series. This position reports directly to a Social Worker Supervisor in the Employment Division. This class is distinguished from Social Workers—Employment in that this classification manages a minimal caseload exclusively of a vocational nature.
Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate will become knowledgeable of the services and tools available in Yuba County and have the ability to educate Welfare to Work participants and assist with job search activities and employability readiness (i.e. facilitate career exploration, job skills, life skills, training). The successful incumbent will be comfortable creating presentations and presenting them in front of students, various agencies and groups. Excellent interpersonal skills are needed to successfully interview clients and collaborate with outside businesses, coworkers and community partners.
Required Qualifications:
Employment Training Specialist I Minimum: Sixty (60) semester units of college coursework from an accredited college or university, with at least thirty (30) semester units in a related field, including but not limited to: career planning, counseling, occupational testing, psychology, social welfare, vocational counseling, and two (2) years related experience providing delivery of social services directly to clients or providing employment services. Additional education may be substituted for the experience.
Employment Training Specialist I Preferred: In addition to the minimum, additional college-level education in a related field and additional experience as previously defined.
Employment Training Specialist II Minimum: In addition to the minimum for Level I, at least one (1) year experience equivalent to the County’s classification of Employment and Training Specialist I. Additional education may be substituted for the experience.
Employment Training Specialist II Preferred: In addition to the minimum, additional college-level education in a related field and additional experience as previously defined.
Special Requirements: Must be able to conduct workshops during the evening hours and weekends in various locations in the community; must successfully complete an extensive and thorough background investigation which includes Live Scan fingerprinting prior to hire; will be required to perform disaster service activities pursuant to Government Code 3100-3109.
Working Conditions: Typical office setting; may involve exposure to hostile, disgruntled or resistant individuals.
