Job Description:

The Yuba County District Attorney is recruiting a dynamic individual for the position of Investigative Assistant to support the District Attorney's mission by gathering and analyzing evidence, interviewing and locating witnesses, and preparing evidence and exhibits for presentation at trial. This position is a non-sworn civilian that reports to the Chief Investigator.

HIRING SALARY: $3,941 to $4,336

Monthly Examples of Job Duties:

• Identifies, locates, and subpoenas witnesses, victims, and suspects by using information obtained through law enforcement databases, directories, utility records, internet sources, public or private agencies, families, neighbors, or other individuals.

• Interviews victims, witnesses, and/or others to obtain and/or clarify information related to assigned cases; documents and summarizes information gathered through interviews.

• Measures, collects, photographs, diagrams, and preserves potential evidence both in the field and at the office.

• Uses forensic tools and investigative methods to find, extract, and analyze data from computers, cellular phones, and internet cloud-based applications. Requirements:

The ideal candidate will be a person of integrity with a passion for justice, a love of mercy, and an attitude of humility. They will possess excellent computer, report-writing, and oral presentation skills. They will have proven interview skills and respond diplomatically and tactfully to people of diverse backgrounds, in adverse situations.

Minimum: Graduation from high school, and 30 semester or 45 quarter units from an accredited college or university with significant coursework in administration of justice, police science, criminology, computer science, forensics, social services, or related field, and one year of public contact experience that required frequent interaction with the public, customers, or clients. OR Graduation from high school and three years of work experience in law enforcement, criminology, computer science, forensics, social services, or related field that required frequent interaction with the public, customers, or clients. Preferred: In addition to the above minimum, a Bachelor's Degree with major course work in administration of justice, police science, criminology, computer science, forensics, or a related field, and additional years of relevant professional experience in law enforcement, legal office, court setting, social works, forensics, or another related field. License and Certification: The ability to obtain a valid California Class C driver's license within ten (10) days of employment; maintain throughout employment.

Special Requirements: Must successfully complete an extensive and thorough background investigation, which includes Live Scan fingerprinting, personal history statement--miscellaneous and medical examination. Occasionally work outside of normal working hours or travel overnight for work or training.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The minimum and preferred requirements are listed above. RECRUITMENT SELECTION PROCESSES: The recruitment process involves multiple steps which may include but are not limited to:

SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE: A completed supplemental questionnaire is an essential part of the examination process for this position. The responses will be reviewed for sufficient detail and will be rated according to pre-determined guidelines. Please include; 1) Places of employment; 2) pertinent dates; 3) duties performed, etc. when responding to the questions. If a job included responsibilities applicable to several questions, separate the different functions of the job to answer all the questions completely. Any experience and/or training listed MUST be identified on your application. Resumes, letters and other materials will not be evaluated or considered as responses to the supplemental questionnaire.

WRITTEN EXERCISE AND QUALIFICATIONS APPRAISAL PANEL: The selection process will include a written exercise followed by a qualifications appraisal panel consisting of an oral examination and role-play activity. Applicants who successfully completed the screening processes and meet the minimum qualifications for the position will be invited to participate in the written experience and qualifications appraisal panel. The qualifications appraisal panel consists of three or four panel members along with a subject matter expert who will ask individuals questions related to the essential functions and/or attributes required for the position. This selection process will be rated according to pre-determined guidelines and may be weighted in establishing the employment list. This selection process is tentatively scheduled for the week of October 11th.

PERSONAL HISTORY STATEMENT MISCELLANEOUS / NON-SWORN POSITION: All applicants that successfully complete the examination process and are certified to the employment list, will be notified and must submit a complete Personal History Statement to the Office of the District Attorney at the time of interview. A review of the PHS will be conducted for each candidate to determine which candidates best meet the professional standard criteria adopted by the Department. VETERAN'S CREDIT: All applicants who have successfully completed the application/selection procedures and examination process may be eligible for veteran's credit. Applicants must have served on active duty for a period of not less than 90 days in the armed forces in time of war or national emergency, or in time of peace in a campaign or expedition for service in which a medal has been authorized by the government of the United States and who has been discharged or released under honorable conditions, and widows of such persons shall be allowed credit. Military Records Form DD214 must be submitted for further review and determination of appropriate credits.

WAIVER OF SELECTION PROCEDURES: When selection procedures have been publicly announced and the number of applicants meeting the minimum qualifications for the position is five or less, the Human Resources Director may, at her/his discretion; a) Waive the competition entirely and submit the names of the applicants meeting the minimum qualifications to the appointing department, b) Revise the conditions of competition to a more practical basis under the circumstances.

EMPLOYMENT ELIGIBILITY LIST: An employment eligibility list is established for those applicants who successfully pass all phases of the examination process. This list will be held for a minimum of six (6) months from the date the list is certified. For each vacancy the top five (5) ranks on the list will be certified to the department for final selection, which will include a departmental interview.

DEPARTMENTAL INTERVIEW: The Office of the District Attorney will notify the applicant of the date and time of his/her interview. The applicant will be asked a series of questions about his/herself and his/her related experience, education and training that exhibit the knowledge, skills and abilities essential to the job. The applicant may also be asked questions about hypothetical situations to test his/her ability to make decisions and use sound judgment and common sense.
