Principal Loss Control Analyst

 

The County of Riverside Human Resources Department has an opportunity for a Principal Loss Control Analyst to support the Risk Management Division in Riverside. The position will be responsible for evaluating loss control data, performing root cause analyses, and analyzing trends in claims against the County. The Principal Loss Control Analyst will also provide recommendations for changes in training and policies and will implement corrective measures to reduce future liability exposure. The most competitive candidates will have extensive experience with a loss control program, familiarity with investigation practices, and strong written and verbal communication skills. Candidates who possess a certificate as an Associate in Risk Management or a Certified Safety Professional are highly desired.

 

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

 

Develop, analyze, and provide recommendations relating to principal risk exposure, loss experience, and other major aspects of the County's Loss Control Program and operations. 

Establish guidelines, procedures, and processes for monitoring and tracking risk exposure, loss experience, and provide recommendations to mitigate and minimize future risk exposure.

Manage projects as assigned, which may include monitoring and evaluating the work performed by staff within other County departments; provide training, coaching, and evaluation of a County department's processes and procedures in order to reduce and mitigate future liability claims.

Develop and coordinate loss trend analyses and loss projections, including development and issuance of the monthly, quarterly, and annual reports; work in conjunction with the Human Resources Safety Division, Human Resources Risk Management Division, and other county agencies to assess and prevent future risk exposure. 

Investigate and identify risk or safety issues through performing cost/benefit and root cause analyses.

Prepare materials for presentations to the Board of Supervisors; may be appointed or assigned to risk and/or insurance boards or committees for the coordination of loss prevention. 

Monitor the administration, documentation, and implementation of corrective measures taken by County departments to reduce or mitigate future claims; recommend training, policy and procedure updates, purchasing or repair of equipment, and other activities deemed appropriate upon approval of the Claims Committee.

 

RECRUITING GUIDELINES:

 

Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in business/public administration, or a related field to the assignment. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on the basis of one year of full-time experience equaling 30 semester or 45 quarter units of the required experience.)

Experience: Three years of performing professional level work conducting employee investigations or risk management functions. (Possession of a certificate as an Associate in Risk Management (ARM) may be substituted for one year of the required experience.) 

Knowledge of: Basic characteristics of County government operational exposures; Cal/OSHA regulations and standards; risk management principles, including trend and/or root cause analysis, and risk mitigation; loss financing mechanisms; tort and contract law; civil procedures and administrative regulations; employee relations investigations. 

Ability to: Establish priorities; identify and analyze issues and select among competing alternatives; prepare written reports and recommendations; develop and maintain effective interpersonal relationships; negotiate and resolve conflicts; prepare and present oral reports in a persuasive manner; manage time effectively; apply risk management principles; adapt to new situations, demands and objectives; interface effectively with staff, Board of Supervisors, management, and the public; analyze risks and select treatments.
