The County of Yuba is currently recruiting for the position of Social Worker I in the Employment Services Division of the Health and Human Services Department. Currently, there are two vacancies. Under close supervision, incumbents learn to perform a variety of duties related to multi-program eligibility determination, employment assessment/planning, case management and troubleshooting of employment obstacles. Incumbents carry a minimally complex caseload and receive in-service training in departmental organization, social services programs, basic case management methods, and casework services. These positions remain allocated at the level I due to the nature of the work. Social Worker I Employment is the entry-level in the employment-related social services series.
Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate is approachable, has excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build a strong rapport and trust with clients. They have skill in eliciting sensitive information in a professional and courteous way for the development of individualized plans that will help lead families to self-sufficiency. They also have extensive knowledge of community resources and approved Welfare to Work activities. The successful incumbent is comfortable performing home visits and collaborating with community partners and agencies to ensure client’s progress. Additionally, they will have the ability to research and comprehend State and Federal Regulations, Welfare and Institution Codes, State All County Letters and Notices related to the work as well as County Policy and Procedures. The ideal candidate for this position will be adaptable and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum: Sixty (60) college-level semester units with at least 30 units in a related field, (including but not limited to psychology, sociology or social work) and at least two (2) years experience in direct social service client delivery equivalent to the County’s class of Case Manager I/II or Eligibility Technician I/II.
Preferred: In addition to the minimum, Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least one (1) year of paraprofessional casework experience at a level equivalent to the County’s class of Social Worker I.
Special Requirements: Must successfully complete an extensive and thorough background investigation which may include Live Scan fingerprinting prior to hire; provide a DMV printout prior to hire; attend meetings outside of normal working hours; the ability to obtain a valid California Class C driver’s license within ten (10) days of employment and maintain throughout employment. Will be required to perform disaster service activities pursuant to Government Code 3100-3109.
Working Conditions: Potential exposure to contagious or infectious diseases or hazardous substances and chemicals. Potential for work involving hostile or abusive individuals.
