Nevada County is seeking applications for a Public Health Officer. We invite you to join the Nevada County team by applying for our .80 Public Health Officer position (position may be reduced to .6 or .7 FTE at a later date). Reporting to our five-person Board of Supervisors, the incumbent serves under the day to day direction of the Public Health Director. 

The Public Health Department promotes the health of our entire community through varied programs ranging from control of communicable diseases and coordination of the response to health emergencies to individual case management to primary prevention of disease and wellness promotion.  

Within that realm, the PHO:  

Provides services and oversees communicable disease, clinic and emergency preparedness activities for the 100,000 citizens who make the County their home.  

Directs the work of combating and preventing the spread of contagious diseases, oversees the development and administration of emergency preparedness plans related to bioterrorism and pandemic flu and viruses.  

Provides clinical support and case management to clinic practitioners, public health nurses and related professional staff.  

One of the earliest COVID-19 Stage 2-readiness counties in the state, public health officer-led efforts have contributed to a low incident rate of COVID cases (41)! Two COVID-19 testing sites in Western and Eastern Nevada County are in operation. Join the team and continue our traditions of promoting health and wellness within our scenic County. 

Graduation from a medical school of recognized standing with a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree and two years' experience functioning as a Public Health Officer or administering a public health program with responsibility for administration, supervision, and effective functioning of the program are required for the position.
