CalPERS Healthcare Update - Part 2

On June 15th, 2022, CalPERS will release their 2022 preliminary proposed premiums, new health plans, coverage area and benefit design changes. As previously presented, CalPERS has decided to move from risk-based to value-based pricing for its 2022 plan year. This change will result in significant increases in some plans’ rates, e.g. PERS Select, and possible decreases in others, e.g. Blue Shield Access +. This change will result in the expansion of some plans’ service areas as well as a consolidation of the three PPO plans CalPERS now offers into two new plans, PERS Gold and PERS Platinum. Tom Sher will again join PRISM, presenting insight and analysis of the 2022 CalPERS renewal in preparation the final release in July. This presentation will give you an overview of what CalPERS is proposing and again discuss how it may impact your budgets and your employees starting in January 2022.

Tom consults to public employers both in and out of the CalPERS health benefits plans. Tom’s favorite activity is stand-up paddling downwind on San Francisco Bay.
