Course description:

The course consists of:

  • 1 Zoom guided discussion; 1:30 minutes
  • End-of-course exam  

Guided discussion learning objectives:  

  • Discuss the workplace conditions that has led to heat illness related deaths in California.
  • Explain why employers must have a Heat Illness Prevention Plan.
  • Explain why employees and supervisors must be trained in Heat Illness Prevention procedures prior to exposure.
  • Explain environmental risk factors.
  • Explain personal risk factors.
  • Explain Heat Illness, first aid treatments, and the 5 medical conditions associated with it:
  • Heat rash
  • Heat syncope
  • Heat cramps
  • Heat exhaustion
  • Heat stroke
  • Explain acclimatization.
  • Explain what conditions create shade.
  • Explain the procedures for when shade must be provided.
  • Explain the procedures for making shade available.
  • Explain the procedures for providing water to employees.
  • Explain employer high heat procedures.
  • Explain employer Emergency Response procedures.
  • Discuss supervisor responsibilities and duties for implementing Heat Illness Prevention procedures.
  • Explain the procedures for supervisors getting weather forecasts.
  • Explain how to use a Wet Bulb Temperature Chart to assess heat illness risk.  

End-of-Course Exam: (optional)  

  • The end-of-course exam measures the students’ knowledge of the course learning objectives.
  • The exam consists of 20 true/false questions.  

Students who pass the exam with a score of 80% or higher will receive a certificate of completion.
