In September 2024, Governor Newsom signed AB 1913 into law, which modifies Section 44691 of the  Education Code. Starting July 1, 2025, school districts, including county offices of education, are required to provide training on how to prevent abuse, including sexual abuse, of children on school grounds, by school personnel, or in school-sponsored programs to their employees and others working on their behalf who are mandated reporters.

Vector Solutions' Child Abuse: Mandated Reporter Training for California (EDU) was updated in March 2024. The course was recently reviewed and meets the requirements set by AB 1913. This training includes information on how abuse can happen in school settings. It covers identifying child sexual abuse, including grooming behaviors, and helps staff understand how some adults may misuse their job or position to get close to children and cause harm.

As a reminder, all school personnel who are considered mandated reporters are required to take mandated reporter training within the first six weeks of each school year, or within six weeks of being hired. In addition, agencies choosing not to utilize the online training module provided by the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) are required to report the alternative training being used to the California Department of Education (CDE).
