Public agencies are encountering warmer weather, and with it comes the need to address both outdoor and indoor heat illness prevention. All public agencies are required to establish procedures, including policies and training, to protect employees working in indoor and/or outdoor environments, as required by Cal/OSHA's Heat Illness Prevention in Outdoor Places of Employment, Title 8 CCR, Section 3395 and Cal/OSHA's Heat Illness Prevention of Indoor Places of Employment, Title 8 CCR, Section 3396.
To help agencies get started, PRISM's Risk Control has compiled the following valuable resources:
- Preventing Heat Stress Safety Talks – Safety meeting resources created to assist agency employees with planning safety meetings around heat illness.
- Vector Solutions – "PRISM: Indoor and Outdoor Heat Illness Prevention" – An interactive course developed to help agencies train workers on indoor and outdoor heat illness risks and prevention.
- Risk Simplified – Heat Illness Prevention Standard – An overview of common mistakes an agency may encounter when implementing Cal/OSHA's Heat Illness Prevention Standard.
- Risk Simplified – Understanding Indoor Heat Illness Prevention Requirements – A summary of key requirements and control measures for preventing indoor heat illness under Cal/OSHA’s Indoor Heat Illness Prevention Standard.
