The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) updated its COVID-19 isolation and quarantine guidelines to reflect the most recent scientific data and account for differing levels of vaccination. CDPH’s latest isolation and quarantine guidelines can be found here, and include Tables 1 - 3, which identify procedures based on an individual’s vaccination status.

Updated CDPH periods of isolation and quarantine simultaneously amend Cal/OSHA’s Emergency Temporary Standard (ETS) for COVID-19 Prevention, with regard to workplace exclusion periods, per Executive Order N-84-20 issued by Governor Gavin Newsom in December 2020. Paragraph seven of Governor Newsom’s Executive Order N-84-20 states the following:

The exclusion periods required in California Code of Regulations, Title 8, section 3205( c)( 10) and the periods for which a worker shall not return to work specified in section 3205( c) ( 11) shall be suspended to the extent that they exceed the longer of:

a. Any applicable quarantine or isolation period recommended by the CDPH, including in the December 14, 2020 Updated COVID19 Quarantine Guidelines; or

b. Any applicable quarantine or isolation period recommended or ordered by a local health officer who has jurisdiction over the workplace.

PRISM will continue to monitor the CDPH and Cal/OSHA, and keep members informed of regulatory changes. For questions about this blog or PRISM's monitoring of COVID-19 regulations, please contact PRISM Risk Control.
