About CSAC Excess Insurance Authority

The EIA is a joint powers authority of California government entities, which was established in 1979. The EIA operates various risk-sharing pools, which provide insurance and risk management services to its members for workers’ compensation, liability, property, medical malpractice, and employee benefits. The Administrative Assistant is a newly created position to provide much needed help for the Executive Secretary and Meeting & Event Planner.  The Administrative Assistant is one of 75 employees, all of whom work from the EIA’s Folsom office.

About the Position

The Administrative Assistant, under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer, will provide administrative support in the Administration Department, but primarily for the Executive Secretary and Meeting & Event Planner.  On average, the EIA conducts 90-100 meetings per year.  The Administration Department staff are heavily involved in most of those. The EIA also hosts several training events which require additional on-site staff support. As a result, this position has been created to assume and assist with the following primary responsibilities:

  • Assist with making hotel and flight reservations, providing itineraries
  • Printing of name tags, name badges, name tents
  • Assist with on-site meeting set-up and clean-up
  • Assist with proofreading and compilation of agendas
  • Serve as backup minute taker
  • Operate the electronic voting system during board meetings
  • Print and distribute agendas and handout materials
  • Assist with data gathering and member communications
  • Provide backup to front desk/receptionist

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have a High School Diploma or G.E.D. and two years of increasingly responsible experience to successfully perform the essential functions of the job, including but not limited to:

  • Intermediate computer application skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Adobe Acrobat 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills effectively applied to a diverse group of customers
  • Proven ability to cope with high volumes of work and a number of concurrent activities, often with competing deadlines and priorities
  • Ability to handle basic arithmetical calculations
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and good public relations with other employees, agencies, members and the public.

Salary and Benefits

The hiring salary range for this position is $3,125 – $3,550 per month ($37,500 – $42,600 annually), depending on experience.  A generous benefit package is provided including Public Employees Retirement System (PERS); a Section 125 Cafeteria Plan with coverage options including health, dental and vision; long-term disability and short-term disability insurance; life insurance; optional deferred compensation program; and sick and vacation leaves.  As a PERS participant, EIA employees are exempt from paying Social Security except for the Medicare portion of the cost.  When you combine the salary and benefits, the total compensation package is estimated at $61,000 - $66,000 per year.

Physical Requirements

Physical requirements of this position typically include: sitting for long periods of time, reaching, grasping, kneeling, talking, hearing, seeing, repetitive motions, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Some travel, including overnight stays, is required.

Licensing Requirements

A valid California Driver’s license is required.  Proof of auto insurance with no business exclusion is required.
