Job Description:

County Safety Manager $8,193 - $9,960/Monthly  *Starting salary up to $57.27/hourly ($119,529/annually) plus a cash allowance of approximately $600/month*

The County of Sonoma Human Resources Department is seeking a solution-oriented safety professional to lead a team of 2 professional staff in the coordination of county-wide occupational safety programs and initiatives and support County departments in developing operation-specific safety programs.

The Safety team provides technical support, consultation, and training to all of the County's 28 different departments, agencies, and special districts. In addition to guiding the team, the County Safety Manager's responsibilities include developing strategic plans; managing projects and programs; analyzing data to identify issues and solutions; performing hazard and threat assessments; consulting with and making recommendations to County departments; ensuring compliance with related laws, regulations, and policies; developing and conducting related training; creating strong working relationships and fostering a positive work environment for the Safety team. The position will report to the Deputy Director, Risk Management Division and is expected to work independently and exercise considerable discretion.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will possess:

• Experience managing a broad range of occupational health and safety programs including knowledge of OSHA requirements, safety best practices and implementing and sustaining safety management systems

• Sound judgment and the ability to analyze and make recommendations on complex and/or sensitive issues, situations, and systems

• The ability to think on one's feet, problem-solve, and assess risk with limited information

• Experience working in a fast-paced work environment requiring frequent shifting of competing priorities

• Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a broad range of internal and external contacts and customers across all levels of an organization

• The ability to collaborate across teams or departments

• Solid communication and presentation skills in order to influence diverse groups of stakeholders
