Job Description:

The County of Yuba is currently recruiting for the position of Victim/Witness Advocate on an Extra Help basis in the Probation Department. Under general supervision, the Victim/Witness Advocate assists victims of crime by providing information, support, referral and advocacy services; assist in completing victim compensation claims; and perform related work as assigned. This is the journey level in the victim witness advocate class series, and is expected to exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment. Incumbents work initially under close supervision as they learn procedures and complex regulations and acquire the ability to apply the regulations. As experience is gained, an incumbent will work with more independence and carry an increasingly larger and/more difficult caseload.

Requirements:

Qualifications Minimum: An Associate's Degree from an accredited college or institution with major coursework in social or behavioral science, sociology, criminal justice or a related field and two years of responsible public contact experience involving law enforcement, supportive counseling or similar work in a public or private agency that provided knowledge of community social service resources and/or the criminal justice process. Candidates with strong experience who lack the degree are encouraged to apply. Preferred: In addition to the minimum, three years of experience providing direct services to victims and witnesses, peer counseling or social work that provided considerable knowledge of the criminal justice system. Work Environment: Work is performed both in an office and in the field at various private and public locations. Work with exposure to uneven footing, inclement weather, temperature extremes, or other potentially dangerous conditions. Special Requirements: Must successfully complete an extensive and through background investigation which includes Live Scan fingerprinting prior to hire. DMV printout prior to hire. Will be required to perform disaster service activities pursuant to Government Code 3100-3109. Licenses and Certifications: The ability to obtain a valid California Class C driver's license within ten (10) days of employment; maintain throughout employment. Possess or ability to obtain (within the 1st twelve months of employment) an entry Victim Advocate Training course certificate. Possess or ability to obtain (within the 1st 24 months of employment) an advanced Victim Advocate Training course certificate.
